Happy 59th Republic day!
This 26/01,
Let’s pledge to reclaim democracy as people power and celebrate 26/11 every year as our “Social Justice & Citizen Action Day”.
On 26/11 last year a handful of terrorists shook up a billion Indians including YOU.
Now the big question is do we really need carnage at the Taj and other places to awaken us?
In a way, it’s good the awakening has happened finally. But let it not be just a temporary awakening based on an emotional outburst.
This year, we complete 60 years of adopting our constitutional pledge as citizens on 26/11 in 1949, and we as citizens have been encouraging this day as the National Social Justice and Citizen Action Day to rekindle the spirit of our pledge and be good citizens to ask for sustainable good governance, accountability and transparency.
We need to be awake all the time. Including times when
- A pogrom is planned in Gujarat...
- Unrest is caused in the north east or mindless bloodshed in Kashmir…
- People are called aliens in their own land and discrimination is huge…
- When the poor are made landless and displaced to create SEZs and malls…
- When thousands die of chronic hunger every day while food grains rot…
- When children are deprived of education and meals due to money siphoning...
- When the money you pay as taxes, cess on taxes and cess on cess is unaccountable...
- When people are denied justice, as the judiciary has been corrupted and justice is up for sale...
And most importantly when YOU and I don’t feel safe at any given point in time or place?
Now besides being good humans let’s also be GOOD CITIZENS everyday as it’s a matter of time before the day bad governance affects YOU and I personally.
Let us reclaim democracy in India as a people power. This 26th, let's remember the constitutional pledge our country took 60 years ago - and celebrate the day as the Citizen Action and Social Justice Day. Let's pledge to become more responsible citizens, the nation and people in power will follow suit.
Let us start by signing the petition and pledge to command good governance as citizens EVERY DAY. Various people including statesmen, bureaucrats, election commissioners, actors, sportspeople, students, professionals and us common people, have signed up offline over the past 5 years through the RIGHT every WRONG movement led by citizens and iCONGO. This republic day we launch the online signature campaign. So sign up, and forward to other citizens to sign up! Let’s preserve the spirit of DEMOCRACY, which simply means PEOPLE POWER.
