The struggle for Indian independence went on more for than 100 years, before freedom was finally achieved. The subsequent target was to establish Democracy in the country. Democracy means Govt. of the people, for the people and by the people. Our great leaders strived hard, assuming that the succeeding generation would become their torch bearers and continue administration in systematic & better ways. But, sadly none of us have so far been able to live even an inch up to their expectations.

The Essence Of Democracy

 

The struggle for Indian independence went on more for than 100 years, before freedom was finally achieved. The subsequent target was to establish Democracy in the country. Democracy means Govt. of the people, for the people and by the people. Our great leaders strived hard, assuming that the succeeding generation would become their torch bearers and continue administration in systematic & better ways. But, sadly none of us have so far been able to live even an inch up to their expectations. Today, at one end we proudly boast of having developed a lot in terms of technology, but at the other we also need to be ashamed for having modernized equally with latest & unique methods of malpractices / corruption. Today any criminal can be left scot-free; creating loop holes in system, thanks to smart, intellectual lawyers. The definition of politics has totally changed. What was termed as one of the most, noble Govt. jobs is now totally looked down upon, thanks to a certain section of dishonest people the entire profession is now associated with phrases like a dirty-game or a quicksand. The origin of media was a revolution for the youth of yesteryears, who saw it begin with their own eyes. Newspapers, literature, magazines, were the early sources which gave brief information about the on-goings throughout the world. However brief the information maybe, it instigated a healthy and intellectual discussion among the youngsters and also enhanced their vocabulary. In short, it became an alternate source of education. With the advent of television, media moved a step ahead. People could literally watch things happening in front of them. Information could be visualized and comprehended. From education is became a source of inspiration for some. Now, the definition of media changed. Today's youngsters fail to realize the thin 'line of control' between 'etiquette' and 'freedom'. Media today, influences more and inspires less. 'Influence' is a dangerously ambiguous word, its impact being both positive and adverse. What was once known as the society's reflection is now become the source of reflection itself. The Gen-Next as we call ourselves, blindly apes what is being served, in the name of 'Democracy'. Their identity is both decided and crushed by the media. Perverts have come openly out of the closet, peeping into everyone's life except their own. We have very few positive trend setters. Most of the times, a petty problem is easily made an issue, subsequently a matter of great concern by both media and politicians.

India is a land of diverse religions, caste & communities. None of our great leaders ever cared which region they belonged to. All they knew is, they were working towards a common goal i.e. independent India. They were different ideologies, but the focus from the ultimate aim was never affected. Seeds of division were sown amongst us in the beginning, by the British before their exit, which was realized later. After being well nurtured silently, through all these years, by our own people, it has now venom-blossomed, all set to become a tree with grey shades. This is all because, it is we the people who have allowed it to grow on us. We are habituated to get influenced very easily. No religion preaches violence in any form, whatsoever. It’s just a handful of idle minds (devil-workshop), who have successfully managed to convey their brilliant set of highly venomous thoughts / misinterpretations wrapped in the name of principles to an uneducated mob. Whether acts of terrorism or vandalism it’s we hurting our own people, which shall subsequently backfire someday. The worst climax expected would be a civil war with the common man restoring to arms. The bitter truth is that none of us are competent or rather worthy enough to comprehend/understand democracy. It’s like pearl necklaces being awarded to a group of monkeys, who could only fiddle with it, without realizing its worth. For us democracy means living for ourselves, the way we want, with open violation of rules. We understand only our Rights not our Duties. It’s high time we learn from our past. Lets once and for all stop flowing with the tide blindly and use our own discretion, before acting silly. Its better we try & comprehend the conceptual essence of democracy before enjoying / misusing its liberties.
