How can you be a part of idishoom.com?
You can be a pivotal part of this citizen media movement by becoming a citizen reporter or a citizen editor. The essential attributes and job responsibilities of the two are described in further detail below.
Who is a Citizen Reporter on idishoom.com?
You can become a citizen reporter for idishoom.com if you have something to say and share about societal issues within and without your environment. idishoom.com will give you an international platform to voice your thoughts. What you need are some of the following attributes:-

A passion for the cause and a personal commitment to building a ecosystem to encourage social justice and citizen action

Excellent writing skills. Must be able to write clearly and fluently in English or Hindi, with the ability to produce documents and other written work for a variety of audiences. A flair for writing that makes people sit up and take notice.

A commitment to the pillars of social justice, integrity, honesty and harmony that are the founding principles of journalism.

Excellent organisational skills. Must be able to self-organise, and have excellent time-management skills.

The ability to work effectively while working independently is essential in this position.

Basic computer skills. Familiarity with MS Word, e-mail and basic Internet skills.
As a citizen reporter you can become a part of the journalist community by participating in the following ways:-

Write a weekly regular column with opinion based/ research based articles

Write articles in approximately 600 words in the language of your choice.

Introduce the idea of citizen reporting on idishoom.com to at least 10 concerned citizens and encourage them to participate in the website’s activities.

Contribute Pictures/Videos that highlight a particular cause.

Promote Dishoooom.com through word of mouth, online and on-ground campaigns.

If you are working in the social service sector and have partnerships with community based organisations, make idishoom.com part of your events and workshops and encourage your partner organisations to report on the portal.

Be flexible. We have a small team at this stage and all volunteers must be willing to undertake administrative and outreach tasks as well as regular policy research and organisational duties. All volunteers are expected to chip in wherever they are needed. They must also be able to get along well with other team members.

Be reliable. Citizen reporters are all volunteers who believe in being the change and mostly work from home. For this reason it is vital that the successful applicant be reliable, have a strong work ethic and considerable motivation, allowing them to work efficiently in an independent manner. Some people do not work well without the stimulation of office colleagues or the discipline of a supervised work environment. But remember, whether sitting inside an office or working from home, you come in contact with social issues and challenges nonetheless.
Who is a Citizen Editor on idishoom.com?
A Citizen Editor empanelled with us is someone who has shown a commitment to the media movements’ core objectives and has been a regular contributor to the news portal. A Citizen Editor has previous experience in online reporting, news gathering and editing news articles both on the ground and through research. Essentially the Citizen Editor works as a bridge between the core editorial team and the citizen reporters on the ground. You can become a citizen editor for idishoom.com if you fulfil the aforesaid criterion. What you need are some of the following attributes:-

As a citizen editor, it is expected that you will be:-

Managing a panel of Citizen Reporters. This involves giving citizen reporters assistance in compiling and formulating their story ideas and often helping them find news sources.

Edit articles ensuring they are good enough to publish

Occasionally, research and rewrite certain features or sections for better reading

Induct more Citizen Reporters

Work on the Content Management System of the website to upload manage articles

Promote Dishoooom.com through word of mouth and partnerships with events, workshops, etc.

Write opinion based/ research based articles
