DEBATE: Developed Countries are the only ones who have the obligation towards mitigating the risks of climate change.

Points put forward:
What causes climate change? Something needs to be done to curb it. UK has a climate change Bill. UNFCC to be discussed in Bali as Kyoto Protocol over in 2012. Developed countries have the resources to mitigate what they have created. Economic growth in developing nations cannot be slowed down so it has to be tackled by the developed countries: they had no restrictions while they developed.
Time is too short to debate and blame as all are now affected by global warming due to climate change caused by all human disregard to ecology, as priority given to economic growth alone. Man has created his own problems and is now too busy trying to solve them in isolation and does not see devastation everywhere, but only what directly affects his well being as he perceives it.
Audience response:
Both developed and developing countries are now caught in a quagmire, hence solutions must happen on both parts. Developing countries need to become more climate sensitive, while the developed should provide clean technology to stop further deterioration.
It has become a global issue and we all have to take a reality check. Countries like India and China have to take a stand or will suffer the most. China is already becoming a desert.
We have to ask what is more important for all of us, whether developed or developing: quality or quantity? The environment cannot be gutted- our forests are fast disappearing and their value is priceless. We need to therefore change our lifestyle rather then leave it to countries to solve it anymore.
